Lamprey Project Leader
The Pacific Lamprey Project Leader
coordinates and works with CRITFC, tribal technical and policy representatives,
and other regional management agencies and researchers to implement the
Tribal Pacific Lamprey Restoration Plan for the Columbia River Basin.
The Columbia Basin Fish Accords funds this position. Plan objectives include,
but are not limited to, improvement of adult and juvenile passage through
dams and tributary water diversions, identification and protection/restoration
of mainstem and tributary habitat, genetic investigations, artificial production,
impacts of poor water quality and public outreach on lamprey status and
restoration actions.

| Essential Job Functions |
Specific
duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Reviews and contributes to the state of the science for Pacific
lamprey throughout the Columbia River Basin.
- Leads development of tribal and regional coordination of state-of-the-art
lamprey passage designs, research, and new structures to expedite
successful passage through the Columbia River mainstem and tributary
passage barriers basin-wide.
- Oversees implementation of annual CRITFC/BPA lamprey project
budget of approximately $550,000 and coordinates other funding
sources for lamprey passage improvements and restoration.
- Represents tribal interests in regional Pacific lamprey groups
including the Corps of Engineers Anadromous Fish Evaluation Program,
USFWS Pacific Lamprey Range-wide Initiative, FERC hydro-project
technical committees and Columbia Basin Fish and Wildlife Lamprey
Technical Working Group.
- Assesses mainstem habitat and water quality impacts on lamprey
and actions to reduce these impacts.

| Job Requirements/Qualifications |
- A Masters Degree in biological sciences or related field is
required. Appropriate work experience may be substituted for formal
education;
- Knowledge of Pacific lamprey life history, research and status
in the Columbia River Basin;
- Experience in developing and tracking contracts, statements
of work and budgets.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing with policy makers,
legal staff and technical staff. and the general public;
- Ability to distill complex scientific data into general concepts
and present findings orally and written to a variety of audiences.
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
In addition, the following qualifications are desired:
• Knowledge of tribal treaty fishing rights and importance
of lamprey to tribal culture;
• Experience with developing and managing large budgets;
• Ability to work collaboratively with tribal technical
and policy representatives and representatives from other agencies;
• Ability to resolve conflict and build consensus.

position reports to the Fish Management Department Manager. The Hydro
Program Coordinator will assist in supervision. |

| Working Conditions |
| Must
be able to travel as needed. Most travel is in Oregon, Washington
and Idaho, and by motor vehicle. Work is completed in both a normal
office setting and in the field. The demands of the work may result
in periods of high stress. The incumbent may have to serve as an expert
witness in court proceedings. |
